Living a Healthy Life
Drink More Water
Something you can start doing right away to improve your health is to drink more water. Most people struggle with drinking enough water and a majority of American’s are chronically dehydrated. To start, purchase a larger water bottle with a straw. An example can be found here. The key is to make sure you have a straw, which will help you drink more with less effort. Set a goal to drink your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 130 pounds, then try to drink 130 ounces. When you are properly hydrated your body works better. Your lymphatic system is 96% water. If you are dehydrated your lymphatic system slows down. One of the core purposes of the lymphatic system is to slow down and inhibit waste removal from the body.
Eat More Vegetables
It is difficult for most of us to eat enough vegetables. Start making smoothies in the morning to help you get your vegetable and fruit intake. Most people have experienced buying fruit and vegetables just to let them go to waste. Instead, buy frozen fruit to use in smoothies. You can also purchase frozen vegetables as well. An ideal breakfast would be a smoothie with protein powder.
Make sure you have a sleep routine for the week. Do you go to bed at the same time each night? That is the first place to start, create a simple routine where you are in bed at the same time each night. Try to avoid any stimulating activities 1 hour before bed. You want to be in a calm state when getting into bed. Avoid electronics right before bed, such as tablets or cell phones.
This is a big one. Most people think they need to devote an hour a day to exercise, but that is not true. Studies show that 10 minutes of exercise can drastically improve your health. If struggle with consistently working out, then start small. Commit to doing a 3 minute workout each morning this week. Do jumping jacks and squats for 3 minutes, then stop. The goal for week 1 is to work out at least 4 days in the week. If you achieve that in the first week, then increase to 5 minutes the next week and continue to increase each week.
Eventually, working out will be your new normal and won’t require as much effort.
Minimize your alcohol intake during the week.
